Exemption—Historic commercial real property dedicated for preservation
Historic Commercial Dedication Tax Benefit List
Owners of commercial properties listed on the National or Hawaiʻi Register of Historic Places may be eligible for a real property tax exemption by dedicating the property for historic preservation, which requires recording a covenant, maintaining the building under an approved maintenance agreement, and ensuring reasonable public visual access. Once approved, 50% of the property’s taxable value is exempt for a minimum 10‑year period that renews automatically. Failure to meet the program requirements will result in cancellation and a retroactive tax assessment with interest.
